Support arrives badly a lot of the time. Somebody tells you about their aunt. Somebody forwards an article. Somebody asks how you are in a voice that leaves you comforting them instead.
Almost none of that is indifference.
It is people with no script, standing in a doorway, trying to hand over something they do not know how to shape.
You can decline the article and keep the intent. Those two come apart more easily than they look, and once they are apart you are left with far more people on your side than the conversations suggested.
