Generosity gets measured in whatever is easiest to count, which is money. It is entirely possible to be open-handed with cash and tight with everything harder to hand over - attention, patience, the benefit of the doubt.
Think of the uncle who always pays for dinner and has never once asked a question about your year. Nobody would call him mean.
The scarcer currencies show up on no statement anywhere. Twenty unhurried minutes. An assumption of good faith about somebody who annoyed you. Credit handed to a colleague who earned it. Those cost more and get noticed less.
