People who describe being guided rarely describe instructions. What they describe is closer to a lifting of sole responsibility — a sense that the entire weight of it is not resting on their own judgement alone.
That relief appears to be available fairly regardless of what a person believes about its source. Something shifts in the car park, or the empty kitchen at midnight, when somebody finally says out loud that they cannot carry this on their own.
Whatever answers, the admission itself changes the situation. Conceding that you are not the only thing holding your life up is where most people find they can stand again.
