An electricity bill is a receipt for something already enjoyed. Three hundred hot showers. The lamp you read under. A fridge that hummed all winter keeping food from spoiling while nobody thanked it.
Some months the envelope is frightening, and no reframing helps with that. Better to say so than to pretend otherwise.
But there is a specific, underrated pleasure in an envelope you know you can pay. Opening it without the pause first. Paying it the same day. Never thinking about it again.
It is one of the quieter luxuries, and it costs exactly the amount printed on the bill.
