I awaken grateful for today and I choose happiness.

The first four minutes of a day set more than they should. Most people spend them reaching for a phone and absorbing whatever the world sent overnight. Waking somewhere warm, with a day ahead that is largely yours, is unremarkable only because it happens so often. A great many people would trade for the boring version of your morning.

None of this has to be dramatic. It can be one sentence thought while the kettle goes, naming a single thing that is fine.

Tomorrow, keep the phone face down until after the kettle.
