Athletes who visualise do not picture the medal. They picture the third bend, the tightness in the calf, the exact decision they will make when it starts to hurt.
Applied here, the useful picture is not an abstract healthy body.
It is a Tuesday afternoon in October: what you would be carrying, which shoes, who you would be meeting, how far along the road you would get.
That version does something the glossy one cannot. It gives the next few weeks a destination detailed enough to steer by, which is a different job from making anything happen and a genuinely useful one.
