Positive does not mean relentlessly cheerful. Some of the most exhausting company on earth is upbeat.
The reliable measure is how you feel forty minutes after leaving. There are friends who are enormous fun in the moment and who somehow leave you flatter than they found you, and there are quiet ones who ask two good questions and send you home with the sense that things are basically workable.
Both are enjoyable at the time. Only one of them is doing you any good, and the only way to tell which is to pay attention on the walk home.
