Affirmation to Kindness I happily give away those things I no longer need or use.

A bag by the front door for three weeks is still, technically, a donation. Most giving away looks like that — half admin, half postponement.

The interesting item is never the thing you're glad to lose. It's the coat that still fits, that you like, worn twice a winter, which somebody else would wear on Tuesday. Letting go of that one costs something small and real. That cost is roughly where generosity starts, and it's why the bag sits by the door as long as it does.
