Panic narrows vision to about the width of a straw. Anyone who has fought a stuck jar lid knows the sequence: grip harder, grip harder, redden, give up. The hot tap was there the whole time and never entered the frame.
A situation doesn't rearrange itself because your mood improved. What improves is the number of moves you can see in it. Fear shows you one, and usually the worst one.
That isn't the same as saying the difficulty is imaginary. Some things are genuinely bad and stay bad for a while.
But almost nothing is only as bad as it looks at two in the morning with your jaw clenched. Reopen it after food, or after saying it to someone, and count the options again.
