Nobody talks themselves into believing they are a swimmer. They go on a Tuesday, badly, and again the next Tuesday, and somewhere around the eleventh time the story about who they are quietly updates itself without a meeting.
Thought and action feed each other in both directions, which is useful when one of them is jammed. On a day when the thinking won't move, the body can be sent out anyway, and the mind tends to revise its account to match the evidence.
Change your mind if you can. When you can't, change something smaller and let the mind catch up to it.
