Some experiences take years to become useful, and demanding the lesson early is how people end up bitter about them.

A job you hated at twenty-six teaches you almost nothing at the time except that you hate it. Then at thirty-four you turn down an offer within a week because you recognise the shape of it from across the room, and the entire miserable stretch pays for itself in a single decision.

The filing happens whether or not you supervise it. Not everything has to be processed on schedule to eventually get used.
