Whatever you carry into a room gets distributed whether you intend it or not. One person arriving tense into a small office changes the temperature for six people before anybody has spoken.
It works the other way too, slightly less reliably, which is worth knowing — calm spreads slower than tension because it's less alarming. Still, the way somebody says good morning sets a range for the next hour, and most people underestimate how much of a day is decided by two seconds at a door.
