The good ones are quiet, which is exactly why they get overlooked. Difficult relationships take up enormous amounts of thought. Healthy ones ask almost nothing and therefore receive almost nothing.
There is probably someone you could call after eight months of silence and start mid-sentence. That takes years to build and no maintenance to keep, which makes it feel free. It is not.
Consider spending a fraction of the attention you give the complicated people on one of the easy ones this week. They have been carrying the thing on very little for a long time.
