You will not notice the day a fear leaves. You'll notice six months later, when it dawns on you that you haven't checked the thing you used to check twice a night. Fading is how most of them go. Not a decisive confrontation — attrition, worn down by ordinary repetition until there's nothing left for them to hold onto.
Which means the days that feel like no progress at all are still doing the work. The lift you took. The email you opened straight away. The evening you went out despite it. Slowly counts. Slowly is nearly always how it happens.
