Being known is slow, and the slowness is the part that gets left out of the hope.
Think about where your real friendships came from. Not the first week of a job — the third year, after enough ordinary Tuesdays that people had seen how you behave when something is boring, or going wrong, or nobody is watching.
Nobody reaches that on charm. It takes repetition and staying in the room. Which means the answer to not being known yet is often just more time in the same place, near the same people, doing unremarkable things.
