Affirmation to Kindness Today I bless my being with boundless compassion.

Today I bless my being with boundless compassion.

Most people run an internal commentary they would never use on another human being. Say it aloud to a friend who had made the same mistake and you'd hear immediately how strange it sounds.

Compassion pointed inward gets treated as indulgence, as though the harshness were doing something useful. It isn't, particularly. People rarely improve while being spoken to in a voice that makes them want to leave the room, and that holds when the room is your own head.

The workable version is small and unsentimental: the same tone you'd use with somebody you liked, applied to yourself, for one afternoon.
