Write down the people who would answer if you rang at midnight with something genuinely wrong.

Most people find three or four, and are surprised by at least one of the names.

That list is a resource and it appears on no statement. Neither does knowing how to fix a thing, or being the sort of person others hand responsibility to, or having survived a year you were certain would break you.

Money is a resource too, a real one, and none of this argues for doing without it. But when money is short, it helps to know precisely what else is in the account.
