Whatever the number, there is somebody one rung up whose life looks effortless from below. This holds at every rung. The man with the better car is looking at a boat. The woman with the boat knows someone who keeps two.

So feeling behind is not information about your finances. It is information about where you happen to be standing and what is visible from there.

Someone, right now, would consider your situation the thing they are working toward. That does not fix a hard month. It does complicate the story in which you are the one who is behind.
