Being willing and being eager are different states, and only one of them is ever required. Nobody needs to want the harder thing. The requirement is that you do not rule it out in advance.
There is a kind of self-protection that quietly shrinks a life. You decline the harder shift, then the harder conversation, then the trip, and each refusal is individually sensible.
Leaving the door unlocked is enough for now. Not saying yes to everything. Just not deciding, at the lowest point of a hard week, what you are permanently incapable of.
