Think back to the worst fortnight you have had — a hospital admission, a flood, a funeral to arrange from three hundred miles away.
You did the paperwork. You made the calls. Whatever it took was found, at short notice, without a course or a mentor or a plan.
Nothing was installed in you that week. It was drawn on. The odd part is how quickly people file that away as an emergency exception rather than as evidence about what they are carrying the rest of the time.
Need and want do part company here, though. Much of what's missing from a life is wanted rather than needed, and wanting things from outside yourself has never been a fault.
