Hold a coin close to a lamp and it throws a shadow the size of a door. Move it back and it's a coin again.

The arriving isn't yours to control. Nobody chooses the jolt when the phone rings at an odd hour. What you have some say over is the distance — how close you hold the thing to the light, how many hours of rehearsal you hand it.

Most fears shrink when described in plain words to another person. Not because the danger was imaginary, but because saying it out loud puts it back on the table at its actual size.
