Bravery is almost entirely a matter of sequence. The shaking comes first and does not stop. The dialling happens anyway, hand unsteady, voice thinner than you would like.
Nobody who does hard things reports feeling ready beforehand. Ask a firefighter, or a parent walking into a school office, or anyone who has ever told the truth to a person they love. Forcing it is not a counterfeit version of courage. The forcing has always been what courage was made of.
