The message got sent, and then read back four times looking for the bit that might have sounded short. Nobody unkind does this. Unkindness does not audit itself at eleven at night.

The worry is not evidence of a flaw. It is evidence of the opposite, running slightly too hot — somewhere in there is a person who would rather be inconvenient to themselves than careless with somebody else. That is more or less the definition, even when it turns up dressed as anxiety.
