Photographs of the same street ten years apart look like two different places. Nobody who lived there watched it happen.

Change doesn't feel like change from inside. It feels like Tuesday. Which is why the honest measure runs backwards: what would have upset you at twenty-five that doesn't now.

Growth and change aren't quite synonyms. Some change is only weather. Growth is the part you'd keep if it were up to you, and more of it is up to you than it seems on any given afternoon.
