Most of what you would now call a good life was assembled during stretches when you thought you were only getting through. The friendships were made at a job you disliked. The steadiness you rely on was built in a year you would not repeat.
Building rarely announces itself. It looks like moving a chair to where the light is and then leaving it there. It looks like a Sunday routine that took two years to settle.
Whatever you are in the middle of is probably contributing something you will only be able to name much later.
