A parcel can only be delivered to somebody who is in. That is the unglamorous half of deserving, and it usually gets left out: not only a verdict on your character, but the question of whether you are there when the thing arrives.

Being there looks like having the conversation early, keeping some money back, learning the skill before there is any use for it. People who appear to get lucky are generally the ones who were ready in an unremarkable way, months before there was anything to be ready for.
