Most self-regard runs on a contract with clauses in it. Good week, therefore acceptable. Bad quarter, therefore under review. You would never put another person on those terms and expect them to thrive.

Watch what actually happens when a friend loses a job. You don't quietly downgrade them. The regard doesn't move at all, and it wouldn't occur to you that it should, because you were never valuing the employment in the first place.

Loving without conditions means precisely that — no clauses, including the ones you'd defend as reasonable. Enough isn't a score to be reached. It's the floor the scoring happens on top of.
