Somebody you will never meet calculated the load on the bridge you drove over this morning. Somebody else tested the water coming out of your tap. Whatever you believe about a benevolent universe, protection has an unglamorous and entirely verifiable layer: thousands of people doing careful work on your behalf, none of whom know your name.
Worth holding on the days when the feeling of being looked after is nowhere to be found. You are, in fact, held up by an enormous amount of unseen care. Not everything can be prevented. But you have never been as unaccompanied as fear likes to suggest.
