Remarkable days are almost never scheduled. They come out of a text at ten past five, an invitation to something you would normally decline, a train delay that puts you into conversation with a stranger for forty minutes.
Readiness is mostly a matter of leaving enough of the day loose to be interrupted. A diary packed at eight-minute intervals is admirably efficient and cannot accommodate anything good that was not already planned for.
Keep an hour undefended somewhere. Not for anything in particular — that is rather the point of it.
