I am thankful for the opportunity today brings.

*Opportunity* sounds like a door swinging open. Most days it looks smaller than that — a message you could answer honestly instead of quickly, ten minutes before anyone else is awake.

The large chances announce themselves rarely. The ordinary ones are constant and easy to walk past, because they don't look like much until later, when you notice they were the whole thing.

So the thanks isn't really for a big day arriving. It's for having hours in front of you that haven't been spent yet.
