The unit is smaller than people think. Not the year, not the situation — the next hour, and then the one after it.
There's a piece of practical wisdom that comes out of long night shifts and long recoveries: don't ask whether you can do this forever. Ask whether you can do the next twenty minutes.
Almost always the answer is yes. Then you get another twenty.
That isn't a trick played on yourself. Time only ever arrives in that size. The whole of it is never actually in the room at once, however loudly it seems to be.
