Forgiveness gets confused with three other things: forgetting, excusing, and letting someone back in. It's none of them. You can forgive a person and never speak to them again, and sometimes that's the correct arrangement.

What it actually means is putting down the ongoing prosecution — ending the case you keep re-arguing at 2am, in which you always win and nothing ever changes.

The cost of that case is paid entirely by you. The other person isn't even in the room.

You don't have to absolve anyone today. Just notice how much of your attention the trial consumes, and consider adjourning it.
