Nobody reveals themselves all at once. It comes out in instalments, usually late, usually after a long pause: the failed year, the debt, the thing you did at nineteen.
What makes it possible isn't courage exactly. It is evidence. The last three times you said something difficult, nothing bad happened. Freedom here is accumulated data.
There is always one more instalment waiting. Most people are carrying something they have decided isn't worth mentioning yet, and the deciding takes more energy than the telling would.
If there is a small one in the queue, tonight is as good as any other night.
