Handing something over sounds like a transfer, but the difficult half is on your end: agreeing to stop holding it. People give a worry away and then go on carrying it anyway, out of habit, the way a shoulder keeps the shape of a bag long after the bag is set down.
Forgiveness runs into the same problem. You can accept, intellectually, that a thing is finished, and still go over it at two in the morning as though something in there might yet be negotiable.
Whatever you are giving away today, notice how many times you go back to check it is still gone. That checking is the actual work.
