Doorframes in old houses have pencil marks up the side, dated in a parent's handwriting. No child ever felt themselves grow. They stood against the wood twice a year and found the situation had changed without consulting them.
Closer each day is not a thing that can be felt on a daily basis. The increment is smaller than the noise around it — a bad night, a good afternoon, weather, mood.
Which is why the marks matter. Date something, somehow, so that in April you have evidence about January rather than a memory of it.
