Those are two separate skills, and most people are markedly better at one of them.
Loving is active. You can throw yourself into it. Being loved requires holding still while someone says something kind about you and not reaching for the deflection: the joke, the correction, the sudden urgent interest in the dishwasher.
Watch yourself next time a compliment lands. If you catch the reflex, try letting it go past without doing anything about it. Being loved well is something a person can get better at, and it is usually the neglected half.
