Every workplace has one person whose arrival changes the temperature of a room, and it is almost never the loudest one. It is whoever says good morning like they mean it, notices a haircut, declines to pass their bad mood on to whoever is standing nearest.
Nobody puts that on a performance review and everybody feels it.
Worth knowing on the days you have nothing much to give off. It does not require being cheerful. On a flat day it comes down to something as small as not making the person at the other end of the phone carry your afternoon for you.
