Affirmation to Kindness I reach out and touch someone today.

I reach out and touch someone today.

Two years of silence with somebody you were close to isn't usually a falling-out. It's a message neither of you sent in March, then April, and by the following winter the not-having-written has become its own reason.

The rule people carry — that it's too late, that they'd find it strange — is almost never true from the other side. The overwhelming response to hearing from someone after two years is relief.

Whatever you'd send is fine. It doesn't need a preamble or an apology for the gap. Nobody has ever read a message from an old friend and thought less of them for sending it.
