When something hurts, a hand goes to it. Nobody is taught this. Small children do it, and so do people who have never had a single thought about energy in their lives — the palm lands on the sore rib and stays there.
Attention aimed at your own body is rarer than it ought to be; nearly all of it points outward, at screens and other people. Whatever that hand is doing, it is the oldest treatment there is, and it costs nothing to give yourself more of it.
