Temples are not pristine.
The floors are worn into dips by several centuries of feet. Things get spilled. There is scaffolding up one side most years, and somebody is always repairing something at the back.
What made the place sacred was never its condition. It was that people kept turning up and kept looking after it.
Feeding a body well is worth doing, and it will also be done imperfectly, in a hurry, and sometimes badly on a difficult day. That is what maintaining anything looks like from the inside.
