Kindness makes you late. That's its most consistent property and the least discussed one.
Somebody stops you for directions and the honest version takes four minutes, or eight if you walk them to the corner because the street signs there are useless.
You arrive after the thing started. Nobody in the room knows why, and there's no way to explain it that doesn't sound like an excuse.
Anyone with a full calendar and a reputation for kindness is absorbing that cost repeatedly and silently. It's less a personality trait than an accounting decision, made fresh a dozen times a week.
