The fourth application is the one that works, and not because the fourth version of you is better. It's because that particular role opened, and the person reading it that week happened to have time.

Timing is the variable nobody controls and everybody takes personally. A rejection in March and an offer in September can involve identical effort and an identical you.

Right time only makes sense looking backwards. Going forwards, the job is to stay in the running: keep applying, keep the work good, be there when a door happens to open. A surprising amount of achievement is attendance.
