Not all of it looks like fighting. Some days holding the line means answering one email and eating something at a reasonable hour, and that gets logged privately as failure.

Most of what armies actually did was wait. Keep their feet dry. Not leave.

Leaving was what lost wars.

Whatever you managed today — even if it was only staying in the situation when leaving was available — went on the same ledger. You don't have to feel fierce to be doing it.
