Surrounded suggests a crowd. Most people's love is thinner and more scattered than that: a sister three time zones away, a neighbour who wheels the bin back up the drive, one friend who reliably answers after ten at night.

That is not a crowd. It is a radius, and a radius still holds you.

If the surrounding feels theoretical today, stop feeling for it and count instead. Name three people who would pick up if you rang them tonight. The number is almost always larger than the feeling suggested.
