A ship changes course by two degrees and nothing appears to happen. The bow barely moves. An hour later it is in different water; a day later, a different country.
Direction beats speed over any distance worth travelling, which is lucky, because direction is the part you can actually control today.
Speed is negotiable. It depends on sleep, on what else is going on, on the sort of week you are having. Where you are pointed does not. You can be slow, tired and unimpressive, still facing the right way, and still arrive.
