My life is a matter of choices, and right this second, I choose to live a completely healed life.

Very little of the large stuff was chosen. Nobody picks their diagnosis, their genes, or the driver who wasn't looking.

What stays choosable is smaller and much nearer: whether the next hour has a phone call in it, whether you eat something, whether tonight's version of the story is the one where you are failing at this. That last one is available more often than it feels like it is.

Choosing doesn't reach the outcome. It reaches the hour. On a long road, that turns out to be the part you can get your hands on.
