There's evidence for this that's easy to miss, because it does not look like praise. People tell you things. The news about somebody's mother, the problem that went wrong before anyone official heard, the joke that only works if the person delivering it trusts you.

Nobody hands out information to someone they are bracing against. Being told things is a form of welcome that never announces itself as one, and most people are receiving it all week without ever counting it.
