Some things do move on entirely: the job, the exam, the six weeks of waiting for a result. They end, and you get the whole of yourself back.
Others change shape rather than leave. Grief in the second year isn't grief in the first week. It stops being the room and becomes something in the room. That's a real change, and it's the one people mean when they say it passes.
Either way, tomorrow's version is not today's. The precise weight in your hands right now is not the weight you'll be holding in a month, and certainly not the one you'll be holding in a year.
