People fail you for ordinary reasons, mostly.

Not malice. They do not know what to say, or they are underwater themselves, or they assumed somebody closer had it covered.

Then a person you would have placed twelfth on the list leaves groceries by the door and does not ring the bell. That reordering is one of the strange, real things that happens in a bad year.

Worth noting who showed up, without turning it into a verdict on everyone who did not. The list you end up with is shorter and considerably more load-bearing.
