Most families are better at specific jobs than at open-ended sympathy. Ask someone to sit with you indefinitely and they freeze. Ask them to pick up a prescription on Thursday and they are already in the car.
That is worth knowing when you are the one who needs something. The vaguer the ask, the harder it is to answer, and the more likely you end up concluding that nobody came.
Pick one thing this week small enough to hand over. A lift. An hour of childcare. The call you keep meaning to make and cannot face making.
